The Sewing Room

Video Links: Chair & Tissue Box Talk Through Miniatures

I am a professional Machinist & Overlocker by trade and so I love creating sewing rooms. Again, I created all of the units that I use, from either Balsa wood or chipboard. The round fabric bolt stand (pictured below) was something from my childhood, as one of the sewing shops (we had them in every town back in the day), had one of these with patterns on it and it swiveled, so I thought, I'd create a material one just like it. Same goes for the pattern stand next to it.

I used a Thimble for the waste paper basket and sat it upon a round disc

Foam board is excellent for creating ones own furniture if you're not to picky about it looking pristine lol. I use either beads or mini drawer handles as door handles and a bit of chipboard filigree as the backdrop brings the unit to life.

The fabric stand is made up from a spool, wooden discs and a skewer with folded patterned card stock to act as the Bolts of fabric.

The sign needed to be changed but it was the first time I'd made one.

Here you see the items for the sewing room prior to being painted, all were created from foamv board

Again, using skewers for rails and adding mini spools to them makes the shelving unit look more life like once its painted.

I added little metal hooks to hang things from like trims etc.

As you can see, it came together in the end lol

Everything was easy, including the little mini balls of wool in the front basket.

Couldn't you just work in it

I used to cut fabric on a huge table like this when I worked in a Sewing Factory many moons ago!

It's great putting a room together and one can swap and change until you have it right before filling it up and decorating the walls with all things a sewing room/shop would have.

This I mounted on the wall, again, made from foam board.

Now this unit below was totally made from scratch

I had great fun creating this sewing unit. Sorry that the video's aren't really that good, but these were done years ago when I first started on Youtube and I only had a webcam that could film 15mins at a time lol. I have created many since and I will add them to this page with links to their videos.

You just need a bit of an imagination 😅

Again, using chipboard and skewers

The old Tatting Welsh work station

Lace and fabrics rolled onto skewers

The mini table above, I did a while back, think it measured 5 inches wide and sold as a display piece.
